If summer caught you by surprise and you STILL have hair- you are in luck, we can remove it! Whether you have already gotten a tan or not, there are options.
As most people are familiar with, there are many types of hair removal processes: tweezing, laser hair removal (LHR), dermaplaning, electrolysis plus more. There are quite a few factors one must answer before determining which route to go. Some questions that are good to ask yourself when making this decision are:
Which area do I want to remove hair from?
Possible answers:
Eyebrows– because the area is so small and important tweezing (if using a vitamin A product), waxing or electrolysis are good options because we can get so detailed without over-treating the area.
The fine hairs on my face– Waxing is great because it covers a large area without being overly tedious. Dermaplane treatments would be great also because not only do you get hair removed but you get an exfoliating facial as well. It is a great 2-in-1 process. Electrolysis is also a good option because each and every follicle is able to be treated and with time will be permanently gone. If the facial hair is much coarser then LHR would be a great route to go.
Legs– because it is a larger area typically with coarser hair waxing, electrolysis or laser hair removal are good options. If budget allows laser hair removal is great for legs because it is greatly reduced in usually 6 treatments. Waxing is a great option if ones budget is a little lower or only done for ‘special occasions’ (vacations, parties, beginning of summer). Electrolysis is great if you able to invest some time or have lighter hair that the laser occasionally has a difficult time seeing.
Do I want my hair to be permanently gone?
Possible answers:
Yes– laser hair removal or electrolysis will be the best most efficient options for that
No– I just want to see how it would look. Waxing or tweezing would be the best option depending on the area because the hair usually returns within 7-28 days.
What is my hair removal budget?
Laser hair removal and electrolysis is a financial investment but also the most effective. If you want to keep your budget lower waxing is a great option.
Do I have sensitive skin?
No- Do any treatment you prefer.
Yes- You can always do a test area to see how your skin reacts
Am I doing at home or professional exfoliating treatments?
When using at-home vitamin A products (Retin-a, renova, tretinonin, etc.) you want to be careful with hair removal treatments especially waxing as it can double exfoliate your skin leading to reddness and/or scabbing. Chemical peels can also cause the same reaction so please advice your professional of what you are using.
How much time do I want to invest in hair removal treatments?
If you are willing to take the long road and sometimes weekly appointments, electrolysis is great because it will permanently remove all hair, even fine, light. Laser is fast and effective with monthly treatment of 6 to remove 80-90%. If there are just a few strays here and there tweezing is really easy. Also, depending if you do or do not want to shave in between appointments will play a role in which method is best for you.
