Microneedling for Stretch Marks

Stretch marks affect men and women of all ages and races. This can be seen in up to 90% of women during pregnancy and also strike in 70% of adolescent females and 40% of adolescent males.

With so many different types of procedures that claim to give results it is promising to see the consistent positive outcomes from microneedling for stretch marks.

Why Stretch Marks are Difficult to Treat?

The skin has an elastic quality that has the ability to stretch out and return to its natural form. However, when we stretch the skin beyond its natural capacity, like during pregnancy and adolescent growth spurts, the stretch marks appear.

The problem is how do we stimulate new collagen formation when the skin is beyond repair?

The Answer is Microneedling for Stretch Marks?

Microneedling is a treatment where tiny wounds are created in the skin to stimulate collagen and elastin. This process of collagen induction therapy uses the bodies natural healing process and results in the improvement of  color and texture of stretch marks. The scars are blended with the surrounding skin making them less noticeable.

A quality microneedling pen like the MD Needle Pen, used at The Laser Image Company, will give consistent treatment depths to help reduce the width and indentation of the stretch marks. So, while no method currently exists to repair stretch marks, a microneedle treatment lightens their appearance, to the point of making them almost invisible.

In this picture you can see how prevalent the stretch marks are. After Microneedling the scar color has lightened and overall are not obvious at first glance.

Is Microneedling Safe for Treating Stretch Marks?

Microneedling is a chemical-free procedure suitable for all skin types and colors. The procedure does not burn the skin, like laser treatments, allowing for shorter heal times and minimal adverse effects. Microneedling leaves the outer layer of the skin intact so expect 12-24 hours of redness compared to laser resurfacing which is 7 days of downtime and 30 days of heal time.

How Many Microneedling treatments is Required for Stretch Marks?

Depending on the individual skin condition we recommend a series of 3 to 6 medical microneedling procedures for stretch marks. Treatments would be done every 4-6 weeks to allow skin cell regeneration to occur. Final results will be seen 3 months after the last treatment, as that is the time the body will still be producing collagen post procedure.
